The Operations Officer will take initiative whenever necessary to provide quality financial, administrative, and logistical support to the VVOB projects and team.  

Senior Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) Specialist will provide technical support for the design and implementation of the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) in the Republic of Uganda project. S/He will be responsible for developing and updating the STRIDES performance management plan, develop data collection tools and systems as needed, track implementation progress and gaps and advise the team on priority actions for achieving results. S/He will oversee the preparation of project reports, documentation and dissemination of success stories and lessons learned, and keep the STRIDES project team updated on the Monitoring and Evaluation guidance and requirements

S/He will implement and monitor strategic and technical initiatives, provide technical guidance around the issues, challenges, and strategies for improving access to quality affecting the project. Contribute knowledge products through the creation and management of reports, technical materials, and conflict-sensitive solutions. She will working closely with STRIDES project and Headquarter (HQ) teams, support the project by evaluating programmatic effectiveness, overseeing technical aspects, and providing technical assessment reports. In addition, S/He will contribute to business development efforts, including supporting the management of opportunity identification, capture, proposal development, and strategic partnering.

Accountabilities:

Technical Requirements:

• Provides project staff with overall technical direction and guidance in line with the project expected outcomes.

POSITION SUMMARY

Purpose of the job

The primary objective of Project Officer: Human Wildlife Conflict is to play a role in managing and mitigating conflicts that arise when wild animals and humans come into close contact with communities, often leading to threats to human safety, livelihoods, or wildlife populations. He/she will act as an interface between protected area management and community management, as well as working with partners and DLGs.

Key Responsibilities

i.

Assessing conflict hotspots to identify areas where human-wildlife conflict is frequent or likely and make necessary recommendations.

ii.

Developing and implement strategies to prevent or reduce Human Wildlife Conflict (e.g., barriers, early warning systems) in line with national plans, policies, guidelines, strategies.

Coordinate rapid response to wildlife incursions, such as crop raids or predator attacks on livestock.

Raising awareness among stakeholders and the public about the importance of wildlife and the benefits of conservation efforts and educating local communities about non-lethal deterrents to promote coexistence, attitude change and encourage peaceful coexistence with wildlife.
